How to charge golf cart batteries?

Charging Your Golf Cart Batteries: Operating Manual
Keep your golf cart batteries charged and maintained properly based on the chemistry type you have for safe, reliable and long-lasting power. Follow these step-by-step guidelines for charging and you'll enjoy worry-free fun on the course for years.

Charging Lead-Acid Batteries

1. Park the cart on level ground, turn off motor and all accessories. Engage the parking brake.
2. Check individual cell electrolyte levels. Fill with distilled water to the proper level in each cell. Never overfill.
3. Connect the charger to the charging port on your cart. Ensure the charger matches your cart voltage - 36V or 48V. Use an automatic, multi-stage, temperature-compensated charger.
4. Set charger to start charging. Select the charge profile for flooded lead-acid batteries and your cart voltage. Most will detect battery type automatically based on voltage - check your specific charger directions.
5. Monitor charging periodically. Expect 4 to 6 hours for a full charge cycle to complete. Do not leave the charger connected longer than 8 hours for a single charge.
6. Perform an equalization charge once a month or every 5 charges. Follow charger guidelines to start equalization cycle. This will take an additional 2 to 3 hours. Water levels must be checked more frequently during and after equalization.
7. When golf cart will sit idle for longer than 2 weeks, place on a maintenance charger to prevent battery drain. Do not leave on maintainer longer than 1 month at a time. Remove from maintainer and give cart a normal full charge cycle before next use.
8. Disconnect the charger when charging is complete. Do not leave charger connected in between charges.

Charging LiFePO4 Batteries

1. Park the cart and turn off all power. Engage the parking brake. No other maintenance or ventilation required.
2. Connect the LiFePO4 compatible charger to the charging port. Ensure charger matches your cart voltage. Use an automatic multi-stage temperature-compensated LiFePO4 charger only.
3. Set charger to start LiFePO4 charging profile. Expect 3 to 4 hours for a full charge. Do not charge longer than 5 hours.
4. No equalization cycle needed. LiFePO4 batteries remain balanced during normal charging.
5. When idle longer than 30 days, give cart a full charge cycle before next use. Do not leave on a maintainer. Disconnect charger when charging complete.
6. No ventilation or charging maintenance required in between uses. Simply recharge as needed and before long term storage.
